Seed-Grown: This plant was grown from seed in our Arch Rock Aloes nursery.

Rare: This plant is very hard to find anywhere else. We specialize in rare plants, and are the only growers of some species.

Puya mirabilis is one of the most rewarding and easy-to-grow species in the bromeliad family, prized for its dramatic flower spikes and architectural form. Native to the high-elevation grasslands and rocky slopes of Bolivia, this terrestrial bromeliad forms dense rosettes of narrow, silvery-green leaves and eventually produces an unforgettable flowering display.

Its species name, mirabilis, means "astonishing" or "wonderful," a fitting description for the towering flower spikes adorned with pale green flowers and striking bright orange anthers. The blooms create a truly exotic appearance unlike almost any other plant in cultivation.

Unlike some larger Puya species, Puya mirabilis remains manageable in size and is well suited to containers, rock gardens, and drought-tolerant landscapes. It is an excellent introduction to the genus for collectors while still offering plenty of appeal for experienced enthusiasts.

One of the most remarkable features of Puya mirabilis is its bloom. Mature plants produce tall flower spikes bearing pale green flowers accented by bright orange stamens, creating an insane color combination rarely seen in the plant world.

Flowering plants often become a focal point in any collection or landscape.

Plants are carefully packed and shipped bare-root from our Ventura, California nursery. Shipping bare-root helps ensure safe transit and allows us to provide the most economical shipping rates possible.
